What is a recurring investment?

A recurring investment is an investment strategy where you invest a fixed amount of money at regular intervals into a specific stock. If you're interested in participating in the stock market for the long term—without the need for in-depth individual stock analysis—this strategy may be ideal for you.

1. Feature access

You can find the recurring investment feature under Stock details page> More. Click it to set up a recurring investment plan for that stock.

You can also select Portfolio> More > Trade to enter the recurring investment interface.

2. Creating a recurring investment plan

  • Set investment frequency: Select a frequency and a specific date on the selector wheel. Supported frequencies include weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly. The interface displays times in HKT for Hong Kong stocks and ET for US stocks.
  • Set investment amount: Only integers can be entered. The default currency is HKD for Hong Kong stocks and USD for US stocks. The minimum amount is 10.
  • Margin financing option: The Margin Financingswitch is disabled by default. Enabling it requires secondary confirmation. When the switch is enabled, if the account balance is insufficient, the recurring investment plan will automatically use margin financing, which may incur interests.

3. Managing the recurring investment plan

Click Recurring investments to enter the recurring investment interface.

  • View the total amount invested through recurring investments.
  • View different recurring investment plans and manage their status: edit, pause, resume, or cancel.
  • The recurring investment details will display the record of each investment, including time, execution price, quantity, and executed amount (if an investment fails, the reason will be recorded).

FAQs

Q1: Which stocks support recurring investments?

Currently, recurring investments are available only for US stocks. Most US stocks that support fractional share trading are eligible for recurring investments.

Q2: What happens if I don't have enough funds when the plan is due to invest?

The recurring investment for that specific time will fail. You can check the reason for the failure in your recurring investment records. You will also receive a push notification. If your plan fails three consecutive times, it will be automatically paused.

Q3: How is the accumulated profit and loss of recurring investments calculated?

The accumulated profit and loss is calculated based on the total cost of all shares purchased through recurring investments and their current market value. Manual sales of shares are not factored into this calculation.
