What's US Fractional Shares Trading?

A fractional share order of US stocks refers to an order in the US securities market with a trade quantity that includes a decimal. Fractional shares trading typically offers lower costs because you can purchase only the desired amount of stock instead of using extra funds to buy a whole share, thereby lowering the investment threshold and enabling flexible portfolio allocation.

1. Stocks eligible for fractional shares trading

You can find the stocks that support fractional shares trading under Market > Classify > Fractional Shares. Additionally, the details page for individual stocks supporting fractional shares trading will display a fractional share icon.

2. Process of fractional shares trading

Select a US stock that supports fractional shares trading.

  • Enter a decimal number in the Qty field (up to 4 decimal places).
  • Enter the desired amount in the Amount field. The system will automatically calculate and convert it into the corresponding number of shares based on the current stock price.

3. Corporate actions for fractional shares

Mandatory corporate actions, such as dividends and stock splits, are supported. Other voluntary corporate actions, such as rights issues and offers, are not allowed.

The operation process remains unchanged. For corporate actions involving stock splits or reverse stock splits, you may receive fractional shares. For example, if a stock undergoes a 1-for-10 reverse split and you hold 5 shares before the reverse split, you will receive 0.5 shares after the reverse split.
